Blue screen error message 0x0000124

Hi All,

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 1420 with the following specifications :

Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5750, 3GB DDR2, 250GB HD.

When loading vista I get this error with no ability to solve this issue whatsoever.
I tried re-installing vista, downgrading to XP, updating the bios, updating the drivers.
Went through Dell's customer care's support personnel without any luck.

In addition, I ran all the diagnostics software that came with the laptop -
there's a pre-loaded software that checks all the devices and memory,
and to be done with I ran windows memory diagnostic.

All the diagnostic software came with nothing - all tests passed and all came up with nothing.

I have some dump files which I don't know how to process.

Can anyone help me shed some light on this issue ?
Could it be a hardware problem, what is more likely (motherboard, other peripherial ?)

thanks,
Ohad.

There is only 1 MiniDump in the Zip File, there was other files but they seem to be corrupt.

Anyway the error is caused by Hardware and the MiniDump cites Hardware as the cause, and it mentions Intel Hardware is at fault if still under warranty I would suggest you get it replaced, I'm guessing only the CPU in your Machine is made by Intel and that seems to be the cause.

And unluckily the CPU is the most unlikely part to fail in a Computer.

Thanks for the reply Woody

Do you think there's some test to determine this issue for sure.

What about the motherboard, isn't it made by Intel ?

thanks for the info.

I wouldn't know if the Laptop has a Intel Board. You could test the CPU using Prime95.

Use the first 2 tests (Small FFT's and Large FFT's) on the program and run it for about 15-20 mins if it finds any errors it will stop earlier and if the system crashes or freezes while using the Test it does mean the CPU is gone to the Computer Graveyard.

Sent the laptop to the service company

After no test was faulty,

I sent the computer to the service company.

I'll update in the next days,

thanks for all the help,
Ohad.

Ok good luck they will give you a cause possibly, But it does look like Intel Hardware.

And actually thinking about it you could have a Motherboard failure as another possibility because the Chipset is most likely made by Intel.

That's what I thought too

They got the computer today,

I'm guessing a day or two will be enough to determine the failing device,

thanks again

A few updates and a question

Hi all again,

after the laptop came back from the manufacturer's lab,

they came up with practically nothing regarding hardware issues.

They re-installed Vista & charged me for it.

The blue screen still occurs every 10-15 minutes or so.

After a lot of convincing they will replace my motherboard with a Vostro's 1400.

my question is whether you think this is a smart move which should solve the problem.

Could it be something else ?

thanks,
Ohad.

Graphics card

Hi,

it seems like whenever I try to watch a video,

the blue screen appears.

another question though - is the Intel x3100 graphics card integrated with the board ? does it mean that if the graphics card is faulty the whole motherboard needs to be replaced ?

thanks in advance,
Ohad

Yes a Graphics Card is built into the Motherboard and normally if that is gone the Whole Motherboard needs replacing.

It would be a Good Move to do it, Good Luck.

No Problem at all

Certainly not common for the CPU to fault, but the MiniDumps were right in the First Place and My Suggestion was, so good to hear that is sorted
