Good quality gaming PCI cards for Dimension
I have a Dell Dimension 2400, which has 3 PCI slots and an integrated video card. I'm looking to play games. That's my aim with the card I get. Games that have a minimum requirement of Geforce 6600 or Raydeon(sp?) 9500. So do cards with these capabilities come in PCI compatible forms? And I want one that give me reasonably good play, not just a slideshow.

Thanks. But I've looking at my PCI slot right now, and I notice it has 1 long part and 1 short part, not 2 short and 1 long like the card in the picture. Is this an issue?

It shouldn't be an issue. Cards with two notches instead of one on the connector are more "universal" than cards with just the one notch. The notch basically has to do with what voltage the slot supports (3.3 or 5v) and a card with dual notches supports both.

Okay. Thanks much. That clears up just about everything I need to know about it. Although I notice the blue and black sllot on the side,a nd I assume that's where the monitor plugs in, but the Dimension 2400 doesn't have an opening for those slots. is that an issue?

Please disreguard my last post, as upon closer inspection I se that the panel covering the slot is removable. Thank you very much.

So what card do you plan on buying?
I say get the 8500GT PCI or the 8400GS or the Diamond 2400 |

Well I went out and bought the 8500 GT PCI, but I guess my computer can't run PCI-E cards, only standard PCI, so I couldn't run the card I bought. I'm pretty much back to the drawing board, and thinking about upgrading my computer anyways.

No, it was fro PCI express, not standard PCI, which is all I have. I asked around a few stores and several knowledgable friends and they said it would be difficult to find a standard PCI card that had the capabilities I needed (Running high intensity games like "Team Fortress 2"). And they said even if I did find one, my play could be limited by my lower end processor and amont of RAM.

The card that the general has posted a link to should work fine, just make sure your power supply is up to the job as it needs 300 watts minimum to run.

8500GT is an excellent PCI GPU, I know because I owned one. It is the best you can currently buy right now until the Albatron 8600GT shows itself at last. Don't expect to play much past Half-Life 2/Oblivion at best with this, but what this card can play, it plays well.
