This doesn't seem to be a malware issue. Thread moved to "Mobile Computing" as I believe the problem is likely related to the laptop and/or its brand.

Update the drives firmware
Download Disc Info Select your drive (may already be selected) Click on View Click on Firmware Updates Click Search This will either take you to another webpage with your updated firmware, or directly to your firmware updated file Once the firmware has been found for your drive, please update it. (This can be critical, as the incorrect firmware can stop your drive from working, so make sure) |

"... could not be performed because of an I/O device error..."
This is commonly a hardware failure in the device that cannot be repaired at a cost lower than replacement. Optical drive errors are now the number one failure in both desktops and laptops. Replacement is the lowest cost option for returning to reliability. |

Impossible to repair them, even if parts were available, which they are not. It is best to move on. Replacements in Australia are simple. Consider Lite-On, Teac, Samsung, Pioneer, Yamaha, LG (my favorite) or Plextor... as the most reliable.
Avoid HP, Sony, H&L, NEC, Ultra, Rosewill, Optiarc and ASUS. If a laptop, Teac is best, followed by Nec Optiarc The battle simply is not worth it. |
