Vista BSOD

My system is constantly crashing. I have noticed that I can hear my computer cpu or harddrive making a windup sound then releasing. The computer kind freezes for a moment then begins to work but after a while it goes to a BSOD. I am not sure that is the cause.

I am running a:
Dual Pentium D 3.0mhz
Vista 32
2 gig ram

The BSOD error is the following

All your minidumps point to the problem: Memory Corruption.

1. Go to www.memtest.org and download their ISO latest version (it's free) and burn to a CD.

2. Go to your BIOS and place your CD/DVD drive as First Bootable.

3. Reboot your system with the CD containing memtest already in the drive. The test will take over.

4. Run the test for a minimum of 7 Passes. This takes considerable time and many people start it before going to bed and check it the nest morning; this is cimpletely safe. There are 8 individual tests per Pass.

5. Any errors and you have to replace your memory; it cannot be fixed. If you have more than one stick of memory run this test on each one individually to determine which one(s) need to be replaced.

* Let us know if you get errors or not.

* Also, for future reference, you don't need to Zip each individual mindump. You can place up to 5 in one Zip file.

Re:Vista BSOD

I wrote earlier about the problems faced by many users of Windows Vista with the latest version of iTunes (8.0.0.35). Apple went so far as to have an employee jump into the support forums to address the issue, which generally means they're admitting there's a problem --- not something they frequently do.

Ok Route44 I did a complete MEMTEST with 14 passes and the results came up with no errors. Any idea as to what could it be? Sorry about the multiple zips. The post from williamgeorge could ot be the problem? I have iTunes on my system but it is not running at the moment nor do I have it start at startup.

Okay, let's try this. On occasion bad memory has been known to pass memtest. Try running the test on each individual sticks for no more than 7 passes.

As for williamgeorge's suggestion even if you aren't running it nor have it in the start-up menue it is still on your PC. Try uninstalling and let us know.

When I run the memtest on reboot it immediately loads and starts to scan, how does one get it to test only one stick when it loads?

Shut down your computer, unplug your PSU, touch the PSU to ground yourself and then take one stick of RAM out while leaving the other one in. Reconnect and reboot and the test will just test the stick you have in. Then do the same for the other one. Put your other stick in a safe place until needed.

Ok Route44 just wanted to thank you in advance. I have done e memtest on each stick and the process came up with NO errors. I had another BSOD last night before the test, The minidumb is attached.
Could it be that memtest does not pickup any errors but the one of the sticks are faulty. Should I just replace my memory?

Yes, sometimes faulty memory can pass memtest. Try running your system with one stick of RAM and see if the BSODs cease. Are they an identicle pairing?

In your last minidump it cited the Adaware.exe. Do you have Adaware? If you uninstall and see if that brings stability.

I dont have "adaware" but I do have "super antispyware 4.14. I dont see anything showing "adaware" in my uninstall area in vista.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to try to read your HJT log because I don't know how! I wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

I did go back and re-read your minidump and sure enough Ad-aware.exe was noted and yet you say you don't have it.

Try this: Go to your Search funtion in your Start Menu and search for Adaware under Files and Folders. Let us know if anything shows up.

Nothing coming up also searched for hidden files as well, nothing that comes up as adaware or ad-aware

Okay, I went back and deleted what I opened and reopened your minisdump. It is another 0xA error and it says what previous minidumps have said: Memory Corruption.

Try switching around your slots. In other words, put your RAM in different slots.

Also, have you overclocked your system at all?

No overclocking at all. When I did the test memtest I did switch them into different slots. Nothing has happened yet but I still get the windup and burst sound again which I attribute to the BSOD. The computer kind of freezes for 2 seconds then I hear a hard drive or CPU burst almost like its being choked then let go.

Okay, then try a full harddrive diagnostic with the free utility provided by your HD manufacturer. Especially run the Long Test.

Also, please provide your system specs.

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. You can list your system specs in your profile. It will guide you what is essential. Again, sorry.
