Probably caused by : SYMEVENT.SYS
PROCESS_NAME: lsass.exe
System crash caused by Symantec AV (SYMEvent.sys)
You can navigate to Symantec and update this system file, by going h e r e

But if it were me, I'd un-install the troublesome Norton and install the free Avira Antivirus, instead

Thank you. I updated the file
Would that problem also cause several other programs to be corrupt?
Such as itunes and world of warcraft? norton was corrupt when i attempted a virus scan earlier as well

I'd say Norton can cause the entire of Windows; every program (including itself) and Internet access, to be corrupted.
Note: this usually only happens under Virus infection (How strange is that!)

I may be a tad bias, but I'd remove it asap.

I'm not looking at them (how rude I know )

By the way, you un-install Norton, not exactly delete
It's probably in a few areas in Add\Remove programs

Once Norton is un-installed
Please then Restart
Then run the Norton Removal Tool, from h e r e
Then Restart

At that stage, I would like to recommend using Avira (free) Antivirus

Download; Install; Update; and run a full scan

Please reply once complete

By the way have a look at:

I meant uninstall, but i did exactly as you said and had no crashes during the process so it seems to have helped. If anything else happens ill be back of course

Thanks for everything

Just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled xp, still having bsods so it has to be a hardware issue. is there an easy way to tell whether its ram or hard drive?
