Heh, fun.

You could try connecting a known working hard drive (from another computer) to the troubled computer.
No you shouldn't actually.
Windows configures itself for the computer it normally runs on, too many people think hard drives with OS's on them are "plug and play". Good in idea though.

If it boots and works fine then you know that your hardware is probably working fine.
Not only is windows likely to invalidate itself because the machine's hardware is too different from the original (greek ship paradox), but that makes the hardware MORE likely to be a problem.

Hi All,

i really think i am not supposed to have a computer.

just to update u- also incase anyone asks u for advice for the "System failed, cps test" voice message that i was getting- i upgraded/ increased my power supply and so far (touch wood) i have had no probs.

but this week- WOW! my pc just kept freezing and then when i shut it down and tried to switch it back on, i had no power at all. i even went and got a 'serge extention lead'... and then i had the problem again. but that was about 24 hours ago and now its working. but im ready to through the pc out of the window.

Same Prob.

Hey, I was looking up a solution for my computer because I have the same women saying "System Fail CPU test" and I reallly feel like breaking my computer right now!!

My computer is not newly bought, and it's been working very well for a few years, Windows Vista, so it's not a virus problem. I didn't do anything either, I was just watching a movie on my computer and all of a sudden, the screen goes black, the speaker stops, but my computer is still on, I tried to restart it, but it didn't work, tried to turn it off but it didn't work, so I pulled the plug instead. When I replugged the power plug in and turned on the computer, that annoying women starts saying "system fail cpu test" over and over again. The screen never shows anything, it's completely black (Nah, it's not the monitar being off)

Since you seemed to have found a solution, can you please explain the part about increasing your power supply? I'm not sure that's the same problem as mine. (seeing as how it was working before...and has been for a long time)...

Hi Scarlettvandasi,

yep- i most certainly had the same problem u have described. my pc still worked and i was advised on several occations that there might be a prob with the CPU- but if that was the case the pc wouldnt even switch on. i tried everything.... i had this problem on and off for a few years.

things i would try...

open ur pc and clean the dust inside- especially around the fans. i have 3-4 fans- one should be on the CPS/ motherboard area. the message i think might also be connected with the pc over heating- especially if the PC is like mine 5 yrs old.

another suggestion is to iincrease the power supply- that is the mechanisim that the cable is attached to on the back on the PC.

since then i havent had the message come up at all. if u look at my previous threads people have suggested a few things which have helped to d-bug the pc. another thing to look at is maybe updating ur graphics card... u said the problem happened when u watched a film on the pc- so its worth doing that.
