Help with BSOD after installing XP SP3 on my Inspiron B130 laptop

HELP!! I upgraded my son's Inspiron B130 laptop to windows XP service pack 3 and now I can't even boot it in Safe Mode.
I tried all of the Safe mode options and none work. The last message I get references Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_area.
Eveything was fine before and the SP3 install went without any problems or messages. The laptop is running BIOS A7 and I see that the latest is A10.
Can this possibly be the cause? If so, how can I get it booted enough to install the later version of BIOS?
He needs this for school on Monday so any help is appreciated!!!
Thanks!

I fixed the problem.
I loaded windows from the XP install CD and used the Recovery Console as described on Microsoft's website.
