One phrase: Modified Catalyst Drivers (Desktop drivers which install on mobile Radeons)

Another suggestion might be Omega Drivers (3rd party driver) which will install on mobile chipsets.

If you search around, you will find them and they will probably work.

Have you uninstalled your old drivers before you try to install the newer ones?

Try this:
http://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/index4.htm

"rad_w2kxp_omega_2536b (ATI) (Catalyst 4.4) *NEW* " is what you will be downloading.

It is VERY important that you uninstall your old ATI control panel and drivers using the Add/Remove Programs icon found in Start / Control Panel

I have the same problem

I have the same MB, CPU and ATI card. Direct X 9.0c will not work correctly and therefore niether will any 3D program.

Doom3 - Won't work
Full Spectrum Warrior - Won't work
Rupublic Commando - Won't work

Panzers Phase 1 - Does work
DVD movies - Do work

I think there is some kind of issue with AMD 64 bit chip - ATI MR9600 - and Windows XP (with Direct X 9.0c)

Did all the driver stuff correctly to include Omega Drivers. Can't figure out the problem, but it is pissing me off since I paid $1,600.00 for this laptop.
