You know, I have still not bothered to find out why this game was running slowly on my machine. I have a 3GHz p4, 2GB RAM and a geforce 6800 128MB so all should be well. One day soon I'll find the time.

Game runs beautifully on my 2 primary systems, #1 is 3200+ / radeon 9800 pro + XP, #2 is 2800+ / geforce 4 ti4200 / linux
How slow it is phant? That system should burn it up. |

Well, the game is kind of from a dubious source, hmm.. sorry to say. There hasn't yet been a truly scientific test, if you get what I mean.
To tell the truth, I really miss a good, interesting, time obsorbing game experience, like the first time I played Tomb Raider I on the PC. It just had an extra dimension to it that games before just did not ever seem to have. It was a very important glimpse of what the PC was going to become, in terms of gaming and sound and experience. Its been a long time since I've seen a game that has that level of innovation - of a purely new dimension. I certainly could not play that game again now and get that same level of satisfaction, and I've yet to see anything that promises the same at today's standards. I know what you mean Phant. I felt that way when I first started playing Ultima 7 back in "the day". I thought "the immresion is incredible... 5 years from now it will be a virtual universe". Boy was I wrong.
Some games are definately innovative - Black and White, although short and quickly tiring, was very innovative. Fallout was a great shift from the typical RPG, System Shock and later Half Life proved that a FPS didn't have to be a mindless shooting gallery. Doom 3 definately pushes the hardware envelope and as far as the acting goes, shows that A-movie quality scripting is possible... but it lacks substance and really leaves you lacking. Hopefully, soon we'll have something that doesn't try to impress you by excercising your hardware alone. |

Half-Life 2 and Quake 4, & S.T.A.L.K.E.R should remedy all that.

Doom 3 is ok i guess, its jut that some of the levels just feel like pad out to make it last longer, if there was more environs it would be better.S.T.A.L.K.E.R will be much much much better ,if it has no load times, look at jak 2, HUGE environ=no load time, even on PS2, oh yeah i've preorderd jak 3 ![]() |

Doom 3 Could have been better if...
Doom 3 Could have been much better if it was Brighter and had Other Puzzles to solve Like the Toxic Canister Room. I liked the idea that you had to Control the crane and lift the canisters to Make room safe to enter.
More thing Like that instead of just Key Codes ... Anyway I think Doom 3 will be liked by some and not others... it's just that it had so much more potential. |

I just came back to finish Doom 3 this week (Sidetracked by Dawn Of War). Aggh, what a let down of an ending. Doom 3 is probably the worst game of the year. Completely mindless, completely over-hyped, completely dated. Looked nice enough (Though that made the poorly textured final boss look even worse), nice audio too.

Doom 3 Summary
Here is a summary of Doom 3
1. You walk in a room, the lights go off and the door locks behind you. 2. Monsters come out 3. You kill them. 4. The lights come back on, doors unlock. This is fun? |

well I've only tried the Demo... and from what I see / get from the demo
I am not rushing out to buy the game. It's way dark and even in the demo it's as Bob_Fabulous says ... pretty predictable, and I have the same issue as Phantasm66, the game sometimes kinda "stalls" and the levels take forever to load.... my machine isnt a bucket of bolts either. ![]() |

I can safely say that the summary by Bob_fabulous is pretty spot on.
I played about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the game and got bored of. Ooo a monster has appeared from no where in front of me, shoot it. Oh one behind as well, what a surprise, shoot it. Repeat x 100000000000 times. And the shotgun was enough to deal with just about all the creatures... I don't think it was a really bad game. I just think that ID should have released the engine for purchase/license by developers and not released this tech demo of a game. I enjoyed HL2 infinitely more than Doom3 even though the "intelligent squad members" feature was a bit of a farce, especially when you tried to get them to stay in cover so you could take out a tough enemy and they ran right up behind you and blocked your path of retreat. |

DOOM 3 sucks
I am not surprised that so many people are complaining about doom 3 . THE game has athing about it. I personally could not stand it . Now with sometime gone i think it makes us uncomfortable darkness surprises creatures . most of us were expecting some monster busting safari on mars. you can appreciate this more if u consider it a kind of theme park scary ride , that is what the game is all about making u uncomfortable . with the amount of medikits armour and ammo available any body can finish the levels . but it is not the issue all u have to do is walk through the game and get over that strange sensation in ur head this game delivers .

about the "he's over there, get him !" kind of AI, think about it, we're dealing with hellspawns, not trained marines so all they want is to kill you no matter what so im pretty sure it was MADE this way so it would give more that fiery monsters feel.

yes it does
so glad i didnt buy this, it was a gift
however i now see games should be stolen and traded because at least when they dont work it's all good cuz it's free, sucks when you pay money and they dont work...in this case it just sucks i get some bull**** error during initialization then i go on an internet journey for patches and updates on all sorts of different sites, and nothing helps my comp isnt the sheeeit, but it's good enough therefor, i like the game concept still, sucks it doesn't work so i hate you doom 3 very much |

I've found most people that don't like Doom3 due to it's darkness simply don't have very bright/high-contrast monitors. I tried playing this on a different PC once and was just perplexed how different my monitor at home was vs. other monitors for Doom3.
If the darkness is an issue for you, try creating (or adding to- if one already exists) an autoexec.cfg file in the base folder.. add the following line: seta r_gamma 1.4 You can tweak r_gamma from 1.0 to 3.0, with 2.0 usually being a bit too bright. 1.4 is usually pretty good for darker/lower contrast monitors. |

Yah, I can't play it on my LCD. It's just 450:1. Only works on my CRTs. Still too dark.

Try the gamma tweak in the autoexec.cfg. It works like a charm!
Setting upwards of 1.6-1.7 for lower contrast LCD's gives a nice, still-dark but contrast worthy glow to the visuals. I think the game DOES need darkness to add to it's atmosphere... but not to the point of player blindness. hehe. |
