HELP!!! usb flash drive emergency!!

my friend was using her laptop [winXP] with the usb 60m flash drive inserted.
while the laptop ran out of battery and automatically shutted down, the usb flash was not unplugged.

but when she turns on the computer again, the files in the flash drive dissappeared. but the properties showed that 20mb is used and 40mb free.

she had tried on other computers but it's the same result.

can anyone help please??

thank you very much!!!!!!!!!

MediaRECOVER is an image recovery program. The program recovers lost files from removable media used in digital cameras, PDA's, cellular phones, etc. Common media types supported by the program are: SmartMedia , CompactFlash, Memory Stick, MicroDrive, xD Picture Card, Flash Card, PC Card, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital Card, Zip Disks, floppy disks, hard drives and all other media. If images are accidentally deleted or formatted in a camera or on a computer MediaRECOVER can retrieve the lost data, even if the media has become corrupted. MediaRECOVER does not write to the media, but stores the recovered files in a user defined location.

Unfortunately, I've had way too much experience in this sort of thing lately , but it doesn't sound as if you've been through format hell. I've found freeware ( 's ; have saved me or taught me things which I couldn't have found out otherwise) which has been able to recover really nicely, everything intact.

There's PCInspector File Recovery http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html

Also Disk Investigator

just to name a few. Good Luck!

If I had sense enough to do that, i would have saved countless hours :hotouch:, even as much as a month. Stubbornness isn't always a good thing.

@taronder: This is probably a subject for a new thread, but I can try to help out a little. I'm assuming you use Windows XP

Well, if you don't have any special setup, then it should be almost as easy as plugging it in.

1: Plug it in.
2: Browse to it with Windows Explorer (It should show up in My Computer as a "Removable Disk").
3: Find files you want to delete.
4: Press the "Delete" key.

If that didn't help (i have a hunch it didn't) then try making a new thread, with a bit more detail if possible.
