Yeah but does the PS2 version of GTA3 have as nice graphics - I don't think so. Consoles also only run at the maximum resolution of a TV i.e. 640x480, so the graphics surely cannot reasonable be compared.

However I think PC Programmers are a lot lazier than console programmers, as console programmers have to squeeze the most from their platform in order to make good games. i.e. Games nearer the end of a console's lifespan are usually better than games developed when the console is released. PC Programmers can choose any system specification, i.e. although most developers choose low specs i.e. PII 400 or whatever, some developers purposely choose high spec machines i.e. PIII 700s.

ha? are you sure? I can play well in my very very very obsolete system (if you think your system is obsolete) - AMD K6-2 400 Mhz, 160 SDRAM, G-Force 2 MX, Santa Cruz.

Don't you think your OS is the problem??

Playable to me is 800x600 rez with full detail at 60 frames.

Both of these games I have to run in the lowest rez and turn down detail and even then still not very smooth at all.

I would think coding out all the systems out in the field that are older then 1 year old would not be very smart since the number of machine capable of running the games are way less.

A console can go 4-5 years but a pc can only go 1-1.5 years this seems a little weird to me.

There is something wrong with your system thats for danm sure, I ran SOF2 and GTA3 (after a patch for GTA3 they had problems with nvidia cards and win XP) perfectly fine on an AMD Athlon 1GHz with a GF2 MX400 64MB, with a SB Live! Value. That was a great machine and I gave it away to a friend when I built new machines (money from a nice networking job I did). Anyways both a friend of mine and I built the same 1GHz systems at the same time and he can run everything I can, Granted he cant run 1600x1200 like I can but he can run it decently at 800x600 with no problems. Even games like BF1942 work on his machine. Either clean up your mess and maintain your machine or just go away because you don't know what you're talking about

You show me 5 console games (on xbox,ps2,dreamcast,or gamecube) that I actually play and like, and I will BUY you a completely new computer so you wont whine so damn much about how "PC games suck". Good luck on this one buddy. Seems youll be stuck on your little console without a free PC from me.

Oh yea.. and by the way.. just cause you can't operate that computer your mommie bought you for christmas and arent as smart as the rest of us when it comes to technical matters doesn't mean you need to knock PC games just cause you cant get them to run. Thank you drive through.

Wow you guys got all fired up about a thread that is 10 months old. Nexxus registered in June 2002 and has 6 posts. Do you really thing ripping on him and his system now does any good. I don't understand why people resurect old threads just to complain. Don't bring a tread back from the dead unless you can solve it (if the problem went unsolved) or you have the same problem and the above solutions didn't work. Surely you have better things to do than rip on people who aren't here to defend themselves.

a discussion board is here for people to provide their opinions on anything not just the latest topics. Who are you to dictate what people discuss and what threads they post on?

Discuss, yes - slam people and tell them to go away - I think not. Perhaps a little more tact is in order.

SNGX has made a very good point in that technology has moved on quite a bit over the last 10 months, so discussions on hardware posted way back are not really relevent to the original poster anymore. Maybe a new thread would have been better as the points being discussed, though related, have changed somewhat.

My *current* system is near identical to that discussed in this thread, and yes playing newer games suck. But there are still many older games that I have yet to play so its not really a problem for me. Eventually I will upgrade my system and then I'll be able to play anything currently available so I'm not that bothered about these issues really.

PS: Maybe someone will flame me now for my comments also.

Opinions or useful contributions... yes.
Nasty snide remarks instigating unnecessary arguments and name calling... no.

Hardly constructive debate from Acid...

Very, very incorrect. There is a new generation of consoles every 4 years. So PS2 has 3 years to live.

PS2 was launched in March of 2000 so by your logic the PS2 only has 1 or 2 more years left

Teehee.. I work in technical support.. well actually tech support is only 20% of my job... but I just have no patience for people that know nothing about computers and just because they can't get their PC to work correctly they have a cow and get all upset thinking a computer is "the devil" or is "a P.O.S."... obviously if so many people are using computers they aren't so bad. I get people calling me that can't even figure out how to double-click.. like I mean.. "Hi how are you....... double click My Computer...."
and I get a response something like "I only have one mouse how can I double click!!!???" well you see what I mean when I say my patience has worn thin with people like that
