Crazyace - Your comp is infected with a virus!

I just got this mail from you (crazyace [crazyace@techspot.com])

Subject: Look,my beautiful girl friend

A file was attached:

Date: 2002-06-28, Time: 19:32:20, Administratör on PERRA
The file
E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOKALA~1\Temp\Unknown04c1.data
was infected with the W32.Klez.H@mm virus.
The file was deleted.

As you can see the name of the virus is "W32.Klez.H@mm" I'm posting this message here in the forums because when I and Julio tried to mail you we get this error message from our mail clients:

ME TOO...

I keep getting e-mail from people i don't even know that contain attachments that contain the same virus.

I send them an e-mail, asking who they are, do they realise they sent me a virus etc etc, and they reply that they never sent it, and they don't know me either..

Also one of the e-mails had the same subject as you:"Look, my beautiful girlfirend

I also been recieving a load of porn spam e-mail and they both started at roughly the same time"...

What gives???

Any ideas how to stop it?

RustyZip: Yea, same goes for me, my Techspot mail account has been quite porn and virus free but now all of a sudden I've received like 20 viruses in just two days!

Let's just not mention my Yahoo account (It's over 6 years old!)

Though it is the account I use daily still...

My only advice for all you people is to install an antivirus scanner...

Norton Antivirus can even scan e-mail messages as they are downloaded from the server, just as tip Crazyace

This is why I have a rule setup in outlook to automatically not download, & delete email from my techspot email account if its over 30k in size. Saves me downloading about 1MB of crap every day

I'd like to nail the son of a b***h thats doing this...

The porn e-mail spam (or most of it) comes from some website called "Absolute Smut . com" or something similar, i'm sure they're behind it. (the virus source)...

YO!

I do not have my techspot address added to my computer.

Julio has my email, and it is link through that. Also, I do not have Per Hanson in my contacts either.

I do not think this virus can be from my computer, I think its from the server possibly.

CrazyAce & others,

The 'Klez' virus infects a host computer & sends out emails from & to people in the address book. It doesn't use the host email. If someone has CrazyAce in their email book, it would/could use his address as the 'host' when it in fact is not.

Since it was Crazy & Per got it: I'd surmise it is someone connected w/'Techspot' that has emailed & saved both your addresses. The person doing it prolly doesn't even know they're infected.

I use AVG Anti-Virus & it catches all of the Klez attacks. It's a free AV www.grisoft.com Norton www.symantec.com also has a Klez 'removal' tool.

The fact that Crazy's email acount isn't working could be attributed to the virus & his 'in-box/'outbox' is full.

AVG allows you to "heal' the infection & delete the email/attachment it came in.

HTH,

I did what uncleel once mentioned...

I have in my address book my other email address, and my email address for my cell phone. I have yet to be infected with this type of virus from someone i didn't know, but my dad infected me once and it sent the email to my cell phone minutes later so i knew i was infected. Thankfully many viruses have a way to get rid of them
