Symantec Ghost 9.0 vs. AMD64 DEP
Using Symantec Ghost 9.0 on a newly installed AMD Athlon64 System with Windows XP SP2 installed, I encountered a persistent problem when doing partition backups ( C: ). I would start Ghost 9.0 and proceed to backup the C: to any location and after 4-5 seconds would get the error message "EBAB001A" stating that the file could not be created.
Symantec's online support has a answer for this problem but it did not work for me. Document ID# 2004101410380862 The problem is caused by DEP (Data Exec Prevention) causes Ghost 9.0 to fail, the solution (in my case) was found in Microsoft KB Article #875352. It details DEP and how you can turn it off system wide. Once I turned DEP off in the boot.ini file, Ghost 9.0 works perfectly (so far). Last edited by 1manITDept; 01-17-2005 at 03:34 PM. |
