Alienware Area 51 pointer problem

To be brief. I have an Area 51 laptop. At various times the pointer will suddenly jump to a different location on the monitor. Sometimes dragging a box, left clicking, or right clicking all by itself.

I've reinstalled windows (XP). Installed and reinstalled drivers. Tried different mice and no mouse at all. The problem persists.

I need help. I've tried everything I know of.

Is the laptop still under warranty?

If so, I would boot with a knoppix CD to see if it occurs inside knoppix. If it does, you can be sure that it is a hardware malfunction or configuration issue of some sort for the hardware. AFter that, I would contact Alienware and either have them repair or replace the laptop, or see if a flash is available that fixes it.

Will try your advice

I'll give your suggestion a try. I have a copy of Knoppix I can use.

The Alienware warranty is expired and they won't even service my computer at all! I'm a little disappointed in them.

Thanks and I'll try to let you know what happens.
