CSS tabling help?

I'm trying to get to grips with CSS at long last. I have been trying to learn from the guides at http://www.htmldog.com/guides/, but I'm really struggling to get to grips with usiing CSS for tabling instead of HTML.

What I really want to do is this......

placing the page header at the top row and site navigation on side column. Obviously, I'd then structure the page content in the remaining space.

The trouble is, I just can't seem to get to grips with this tabling and so I can't really work out the proper method for doing this.

Can anybody please direct me in this, or point me to a page that would take me through a tutorial for similar, or even give me a rough script that I can look at and understand how it works. It's really starting to get to me (again) now, and it really is all that's standing in my way to learning how to use CSS reasonably proficiently.

heck, even forum dedicated to webscripting (css in particular) that wouldn't get upset with a css novice asking questions would be helpful!

Not sure if I already mentioned this to you, but get this book, I've found it invaluable.

Thankyou realblackstuff!

You've done more for me in terms of web building than anyone could ever reall expect from anyone. I really apreciate it.

I just don't know how I can repay you. Hows about I petition the pope to make you a saint or something?

Seriously though, I really appreciate it. Thanks

I'd much rather you get in touch with the Dark Gods of the Real Black Stuff.
At least they provide something tangible, albeit that it disappears very fast, once you got it!
Slainte! (not saint)
