I have windows 98 used browser Explore 6 when I try to defragment my C drive it will not go pass 10% It been months since i been able to run it and need it. My computer is slow and freeze Thank you for any advice BJ

It's possible that the problem lies with the disk being accessed while the defragmenter is running (always was a problem on 98.)

hit ctrl+alt+delete and end as many processes as you can without rendering the computer in need of rebooting to use it, and then try defragging.

If in doubt, list the running processes here and either someone else or myself will try and tell you what you can end and what you shouldn't.

ok. That's simple then.

End ALL processes except for explorer and systray

defrag, and reboot when complete.
