What should I use for AntiVirus and Spyware detection?

Free or not, what should I go for? Currently I have no Anti virus software. I have ad-aware installed.

System specs
AVG is great. IF you are a US federal gov't employee you can get norton corporate (with the bloatware of Norton home) for free.

I recommend Spybot Search & destroy, Adaware, and free Micros0ft Antispyware beta (all free) for spyware/adware elimination.
