Computer restarts when loading Half-Life 2

Just got a new computer and wanted to put it through it's paces, but after updating half-life two, the computer just restarts itself when i try to load it.

At first it seems ok, saying, "preparing Half-Life 2", then the computer gets noisey, screen goes blank and the system restarts.

Sounds like it could be a memory dump?

Here are the specs:

Intel® Pentium® D Dual Core processor 830 3.0 GHz
1024 MB DDR2 SDRAM with 533 MHz
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 6700 XL 128 MB PCI Express x16.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Ok, I turned on full memory dump, but thats one big file - 1gb.

However, the blue screen message during the full memory dump read:

"Tech Information:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBFA7598B, 0xB59D6B28, 0x00000000)

nv4_disp.dll - Address BFA7598B base at BF9D4000, Datestamp 43333970."

Sounds like it's a graphics driver problem then? The PC is only a few days old, so if it's going to have recurring problems with games, I want to be able to take it back and get a refund.

Cheers for your help and replies.

yeah its yuor card..tell me do hear a screeching noise right before your pc crashes?

or have u disabled the onboard video? onborad video sometimes causes conflicts with real graphics cards
to disable onboard video u usually go to the bios
once disabled u boot up and download the latest drivers from nvidia
dont install them right away!!
uninstall the once u had and reboot
once rebooted install the new ones

the key to the crashinng i believe is that updated drivers dont automatically uninstall the old ones =o
