DirectX9.0c error while downloading

I just tried to download DirectX 9.0c at the MS website, after several attempts I gave up. Kept getting the same results, "DirectX 9.0c fails to load properly". From what I see it happens during the .dll series of files. Does not give me any details, just says did not load properly. Im trying to use the new AOE 3 game. Required DX 9.0 to get it to work. Please help, was a gift for my wife for X-mas. Thanks! Warb the Snap!

I don't know that I have an answer for you but did you use the Windows Update feature to download DirectX 9.0c or did you download the file separately?

If your system supports DirectX 9.0c, when your system is scanned by Windows Update, it should offer it as an optional update. That is assuming it isn't already installed (which it isn't, apparently).
