DVD Burner doesn't recognize some blanks

Liteon DVDRW SOHW832S 8X Burner, it's about 1 & a half years old. I had xp pro SP2, nero 6.6, clone cd 5.9, dvd shrink 3.2, dvd decrypter & had to format & reinstall xp home SP1 (I don't have xp sp2). Now the burner doesn't recognize some dvd-r 's that it used & worked fine when I had xp sp2. It would just spin & blink make noise and says insert a blank.......but sometimes it burns on the same dvd-r that it didn't read previously!!!

So, is it time to get a new burner? XP SP2? Or inferior blanks.

What Brand meida? it is possible you have a bad batch. also check to see if the drive is operating in DMA or PIO mode. you can find out in device manager under IDE ATA|ATAPI Controllers, look in the advanced tab on the IDe channel the drive is on.

It's on DMA if available - Ultra DMA Mode 2. The dvd brand Ridata dvd-r Nero sees it as ritek go5 or something like that I can't remember, but sometimes the same blank it refuses today might work tomorrow(that's with the ridata). The Benq dvd-r printable Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info

Only 15 from a 50 pk worked good the rest freezed at the ending or just got stuck at lead in. I have been using Benq DVD-R (white and a pink splash) it works excellent & still works but the store didn't have any in stock & I got stuck with the printable benq that smells like an ink factory. So it isn't SP2???
