Not sure I understand your question....
All of the newer prescotts use the LGA775 socket, but the Pentiums D's use a different style of LGA775 socket. As far as I know they are not interchangeable.
I didn't know that the sockets for PDs are actually different. wont some boards support PDs and P4s? anyway, geno2k3, some boards will support certain processor models but not others, even though they have the same socket. So yes, compatibility depends not just on socket type.
