Latitude D520

Can the BIOS password be removed? I have read as much as possible on here today (great contributions by many members ) and there is some saying yes and some saying no - afaik there is no eeprom to short on this model - i cant get to the one time boot choice menu to boot from floppy or cd to try out any of the software

any definative answer if this model can be done would be appreciated :-)

Ozmaia, i've already told you, where is the password. you need to reflash bios chip with external programmator. if you don't know where's the BIOS chip and if you don't know what is extarnal programmator, don't kill laptop, give it to people who know what they should to do.

HP Omnibook xe4500

Hi there.

At first: sorry for my bad english.

I got a problem with my "HP Omnibook xe4500". There is a unknown Bios-Password and i allready contacted the hp-support-hotline. they asked me to look with F12 the system-hash-code. it is : 04361

After that, they mailed me a list with counterpasswords (i don't know the right english word) that should help:

segshrc
v6i9x74
edb3xb0
8o55lns
51w6sqo
5flor71
dp7bt5w
9rnsz2v
8co6tvh
m8d72bx
jem9or7
z4mcfsk
bv57t89
wbrtq2j
a8nr6p3

But every of these password don't work --> "System Warning - Invalid Password".

I called the hotline again and they said: then you can only exchange the mainboard, because the password is in the eeprom....

can anybody HEEEELP me ?!? :-((

first two passwords is bad. All others should work.
Try to press F2, then F12 and hit ENTER if required, then type in password.

HP and Acer are top vendor in the world, but they dont care about strong password security.
Many people can bypass it easily.

Latitude D420

We found this notebook at fathers house without any documentation at all (father have died 1 month ago).
When I've switched on this thing I've found out that the notebook is HDD and Bios password protected so I've started to search for solution on Internet. I didn't find any for D420.
But anyhow solutions for other Dell notebooks pointed me where to start.
What I did to remove Bios Password because I didn't find that small EEPROM 24C02 inside D420 (I believe that it hasn't it).
First think I did was to remove HDD and try to boot with external USB CD ROM. It worked, so I try the same with bootable USB stick and It worked too. I was trying to remove master Bios password with various CMOS tools, Bios tools..., but no one worked neither latitude.exe because 595B. I've read that we can change service tag and asset tag with asset tool from Dell and this numbers have to be stored at the same place in memory (I belive that they are stored in Flash SSt25VF08). So I've started.
- I've removed main battery,
- HDD,
- battery for CMOS,
- than I waited cca one hour.
- within that hour I've prepared pure DOS bootable USB stick with asset (from Dell FTP)
- boot with USB stick
- run asset from USB with option /s
- when it asked me if I would like to erase all data (or something like that) I've pressed Y
- when it did I didn't type new service tag number but switched off the notebook.

YES, all Bios passwords gone away, but unfortunately HDD is locked with ATA user password and for this I need solution.

On gray screen is written: **X6HCWC1XW-595B

Thanks in advance for solution.

@B11TME "very quick response"
Quick response to what?

@champ "this is your code..."
Has a post gone missing here is the help thread: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic90285.html

Many members view this thread (and others)
Many non-members view this board

Actually according to the statistics, on a quick maths percentage (views and replies)
Approx. 90% of viewers do not post.

I would say, keep all information public.
I also watch this board myself, I believe the support members (those in the know!) do seem to be helping users more and more (mostly publicly)
I would like to say that this public support, looks good and promising for others requiring help. Please continue this, both in support, and thanks for it.

Especially on this thread.
