New computer im building--decent? suggestions?
Im building myself a new computer and just wanted any opinions on the parts or any recomendations for something different. First time doing this so any help is appreciated--I was planning on it being a gaming computer.

How much are you willing to spend and do you want to SLi / Crossfire ( 2 videocards ) and exactly what games are you playing? Oblivion and other games with such high-end graphics will need a 7900+ or games like WoW will only need like a 6800 to run with pretty good FPS ( around 40-50 )
Also you can have Multiple HDs if you really want more space but since you're just a gamer you wont really need more then about 250g because games only take up like 3-4g each Here is my build which should be able to run any game: Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188009 eVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145566 CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) x2 Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150150 XFX PV-T71G-UCF7 GeForce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail Hard Disk Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002 OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply - Retail DVD Burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152076 NEC Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache E-IDE / ATAPI DVD Burner - OEM Sound Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829111002 DIAMOND XtremeSound XS71DDL 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail Total: $1436 with shipping Last edited by TimeParadoX; 11-24-2006 at 02:51 AM.. |

tdizzle, one thing wrong I see with your list is your choice of an IDE Ultra ATA100 hard drive. When you say you already have optical drives, I presume you mean at least two. Your motherboard choice, like so many newer ones these days, has only one PATA controller so you will be limited to only two IDE ATA drives. If you get a SATA hard drive instead, that will solve the controller shortage. Either that or you could get a PCI PATA controller card to gain extra PATA controllers. However, you don't have a lot of PCI slots on that motherboard to work with, especially if you set up an SLI configuration with large graphics cards.
