The list looks good. You'll want at least a DVD-player drive, if not a DVD burner drive too, because most games these days are shipped out on DVD's.

well im not really shoping over the internet.

there is a computer builders warehouse store near me so i think ill get most form there. and they arre pretty cheap too. you tell me if 119 is good for a 2ghz processer xD

but if you really want to help. then whats a good processer?

You might want to take your time a little before rushing into this new PC, especially since it is your first. Perhaps you could start by buying someone's old system and fixing it up?

well i did fix up my old computer first. i put windows xp, nividia fx5500 graphics card, ethernet adapter, and 256 more ram in my old 99 compaq perrsario(lol it suks i know) so nothing major. but i have a freind thats ganna help me.

It's not just the raw speed my friend, remember... A C2D at 1.8GHz will beat the crap out of any Pentium 4 @ 3.5GHz.

I suggest you come up with a list of exact components and post it here for us to analize it - you don't wanna get a 200$ CPU and then a 200$ motherboard, both excellent parts themselves, but then figure out that they can't work together because one is for example Socket LGA775 and the other is AM2.

Try to be patient, and don't double post if there are no messages between two of your own messages.



I also think that you are rushing a bit into this build...
However, if you are fully inclined to building a computer and you are getting help from a friend (who has experience...?) then you might be okay.



Before my first build, I did a s***load of research beforehand. I was google-ing my questions about building PCs, and also reading forums, for hours on end.

This ensured that when the time comes that I do build my PC, there are no surprises waiting. Which is true, I remember my first build went very smoothly and nothing unexpected happened.

I strongly recommend that you do some research and self-educating before building your own computer. It will pay off in the end. Besides, you need to educate yourself on which parts are currently at their height at the moment (C2D) and which parts will give you the best value.



Remember what I always say: An educated buyer is more likely to be a satisfied buyer!

You want us to do your work for you, and you do not have the courtesy to write out the components?
Buy the processor and cpu fan as a set.
For you, I would buy the CPU, CPU fan, and motherboard as a set.
Your hard drive has a three year warranty. The Seagate has a five year warranty and a better service record.
Power supply is ok.
PNY memory is junk. Consider Micron, Kingston, Corsair, Infineon, or OCZ
Video card is acceptable
DVD drive is acceptable. LG better.

Those parts you posted are compatible, and they will work, but there are strong points as well as weak points.

With this, it will be a cheap gaming machine that will play every game with respectable settings.

If your budget permits, then get 2GB memory, an 8800GTS, an E6600, a WD Raptor, an X-Fi sound card, and a better mobo. That will create a monster gaming machine but at a MUCH higher price.


I think that you can do it with your friend's help and our help. You'll learn a lot and have a wonderful PC in the end.

wow that cpu is weak compared to the one i picked out this is only 1.86 ghz

the other was 2.2 ghz why the other one better?

and the graphics card was like the same thing but more expensive whats the difference?

That CPU is actually better than the one you linked to. It is Dual-Core which means it has two execution cores to "double" the speed. A Core 2 Duo can beat a single core CPU even if it has a higher clock speed. It is not recommended to build a computer at this time without having a Core 2 Duo as the CPU.

The graphics cards are not the same. The one you linked to is a 7600GT, and the one I linked to is a 7900GS. 7900 > 7600

$600 is quite impossible for a gaming machine. Having a price that's under $1000 for a gaming computer is a blessing.

You should really stretch that budget or you won't be getting much performance. You get what you pay for...

well.... i like the case lol. ok these are great computers but listen.

mine right now has 320mb sdram, 677mhz processing speed, 128mb fx5500 graphics card, and sbcyahoo dsl(elite the fastest one there is) and i run games fine now. it just freezes and lagges like **** all the time. so i really dont need to fancy just better then that hunk of garbage. and i could prolly pull my graphics card out of my old one sence i just replaced it about 3 months ago and think about a new one later. that saves money.

The world has left you behind. It fails because of the slow FSB of 66 mhz and the minimal RAM at 320. And now you want to do your best to stay behind.
First, do not plan to use that power supply if you want to be a gamer. If budge is an issue, get a $10 motherboard and a $60 Antec or Cooler Master power supply.
As a general rule, the case + power supply bundles are terrible choices with high failure rates... unless you know from separate reviews that the power supply is a good one.
Making this decision without knowing the motherboard, CPU, and HDD are similarly unwise... cases are not universal when you get to gaming.
XION cases sometimes have lousy power switches that wear out quickly, or create voltage problems.
Tell us your budget and we can perhaps advise several options. Otherwise, pick the motherboard and CPU as a package, then the power supply, then the case.
