I have a trojan infecting my winlogon.exe. It's called spy-agent.bv!inf and i cannot get rid of it!

I dread to think how much crap there is on my laptop, but here is the HJT log so hopefully someone can help me get rid of my virus and any other rubbish...

I believe kernels88 is also a virus and again have tried deleting i but it keeps re-appearing

Thanks anyone for help you can give!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is badly infected with a variety of malware.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

Regards Howard

All items in your AVG Antispyware log say "No Action Taken". That`s because you didn`t tell AVG Antispyware to quarantine the results. See HERE for instructions.

Download the Pocket Killbox programme from HERE. Extract it but don`t run it yet.

Download LSPFix from http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
1. Disconnect from the Internet, go to the LSPfix file and extract/unzip LSP-Fix into its own folder [C:\lspfix].
2. Open the lspfix folder and double-click on LSPFix.exe to start the program.
3. Check the "I know what I am doing" checkbox.
4. Select (highlight) all instances of 'spyemergencycnt.dll' in the left column under "Keep".
5. Click the arrow >> so it goes over to the right column under "Remove".
6. Click "Finish" and LSPfix will remove references to the file and restore the chain numbers.
7. Restart your computer

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

spyemergency
Netgate

Close control panel.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O20 - Winlogon Notify: dssoundi - C:\WINDOWS\

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\Program Files\Netgate<Delete the entire folder.

Run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and check the delete file on reboot button. press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, select no until you have finished inputting the files you want to delete, only then allow it to reboot and hopefully your files will now be deleted. If your computer doesn`t automatically restart, restart it manually.

These are the filepaths you need to enter into killbox.

C:\windows\system32\spyemergencycnt.dll
C:\windows\system32\dssoundi.dll

Once your system has rebooted, rehide your protected OS files.

Post a fresh HJT log as well as another AVG Antispyware log.

Regards Howard :)

Did everything you said, but these two files did not exist according to killbox:

C:\windows\system32\spyemergencycnt.dll
C:\windows\system32\dssoundi.dll

Couldnt find anything to do with Netgate anywhere at all.

I installed SpyEmergency myself to try to get rid of the winlogon.exe virus, was that a bad idea? Im guessing SpyEmergency is a not-so-legit anti-spyware program?

And btw, the link you gave me to the killbox program is a bad link, it downloads killbox.exe which is 0kb and when opened, "Killbox.exe is not a valid win32 application" - might wanna check that one out :)

Thanks for the info on the Killbox file from Bleeping Computer. There`s obviously a problem with the Bleeping Computer website.

Have HJT fix this entry.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Other than that, your HJT log is clean.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

Regards Howard :)

Sorted.

Thanks a lot for all your help, Howard! Mcaffee no longer tells me that i have a trojan which means i don't have to format my hard drive, wahoo!

Thanks again, and i hope you get paid for this!

No, I don`t get paid and neither does anyone else here. We`re all volunteers and do it just for fun. ;)

The only people who get paid here are the Techspot staff members.
