I you want an expansive mythology you might want to follow Battlestar Galactica.
"Transformers" is just a little play about good versus evil with an accidental hero thrown in to hang the story on. The effects do carry it mightily though. If I was the director, I would have gotten Megan Fox into a bikini and hosed her down, but then I'm a pig.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with Transformers. It did what I believe it was set out to do, which was:

*Appeal to general audience
*Not go terribly against the few peope that grew up in the 80s that actually remember real story lines. (I was born in 1980, grew up with transformers, but I can't tell you much of anything that happened in the cartoon)
*Be a summer action movie

If you are looking for great drama, find another movie.

Realizing its 'faults' I still think it was one of, if not, the best movie of 2007. Mostly because there weren't many good movies last year.

Agreed.

Hellboy2 is coming out this summer. For me at least, the original had a well developed mythology, and a sense of humor. Rasputin, Hell, Nazis, great stuff, I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Too long? You are going to have to back that up. I can't think of any part that could be removed without hurting the feel of the movie.

Ahem......

Like wow, my attention span is exactly 42 minutes, the same length as a one hour TV series episode. (Without the commercials). So wow, "Transformers" was like double extra super long to me.

Now tell the truth, SNGX1275, Isn't what you meant to say, "any explosion removed without hurting the feel of the movie"? Awesome...as they say on the Verizon FIOS ad.

LOL...... ad nauseum

It's hard to go wrong with something as established as Transformers

I feel that they could have been a little less cheesy and more serious, there wasn't enough violence. But it is a movie aimed at the younger people.

What i don't get is why Optimus Prime is a retard, he tells sam to put the cube in his chest and kill him but sam did the right thing and put it in megatron's chest. I wish sam killed optimus just because optimus is stupid

This is the kind of thing that could earn you the diagnosis of "sociopath".

Transformer was a great movie, not the best movie I ever saw , but well put. Only problem, the "sector 7" or whatever the name, they were bad actors. Thats about it.

Found the movie entertaining but I'd be wanting more fight scenes and generally was disappointed at the ending at how Sam defeated Megatron...just wasn't what I expected

I don't understand why they ended a 20min awesome battle scene by stuffing a cube in megatron's chest. (Thats it?)

Optimus Prime seems like a pansy. Aside from his awesome beheadding scene on the highway he doesn't do much other than get beat up. I've been watching a few of the old cartoons and seen a few fights between him and Megatron, and Megatron always has the upper hand.

Sort of an ironic, dark, and disturbing twist on the "Tin Man" needing a heart, wasn't it? Well, dark, disturbing, and cheesy all at once.

That's always been the problem in figuring out how to destroy an indestructable opponent. Once you establish the fact that the situation is insurmountable, a not so obvious simple solution is all that remains available. A brains versus brawn paradyne. Besides, how else would you make Shia LeBeouf look tough or smart? "Where's the beef"? Please, spare me. Is that any thing like, sure "Tyrone Power was his real name or, he was Rock Hudson since birth maybe. You are of course aware that "LaBoeuf" is "the beef" in French. They were going to name him "Chili con Carne". Oooo, he's hot! ?Hablan ustedes Espanol?

The Cranky version:
Megan Fox storms in, dressed in a soaking wet bikini and jambs the cube into Megatron's rear waste elimination interface! Y'all bees messin' wif my man, F*** you! Ooooo, cut that out, or buy me dinner, says Megatron! Megatron explodes, feeling content but badly used all at once. If she bent over while inserting the cube, the ending would have been truly "climactic". (If you'll pardon the pun).

Smelly Footnote;
My ending probably would have compromised the movie's PG-13 rating. Although, Megan's "F bomb", is used as an expletive, and therefore could be permitted one time only, in a PG-13 film. However, her concomitant activities may have negated the availability of that particular exclusion.
