win xp prof. wont start

I received an error code c0000218 {Registry File Failure}, with the following codes: \systemroot\system32\config\default
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent , or not writable

Please someone help me?

What were you doing previously? Was this from you restarting your computer/starting it up?

Or were you freshly installing windows for the first time?
 
I was working on my Laptop as usual, then all of the sudden it turned off, and gave me an error code, the same one you just read..!
Now, I an trying to repair with my win xp cd and is taking forever...!

Yeah, its recommended that you try and repair with the windows cd.

While you're in there, give a chkdsk /r a try and see if it comes up with anything, if so, then chkdsk /f to repair.

If not, then get back to us
 
Yeah thats expected. If you place your windows cd in the drive and get it to boot, then when it asks whether you want to install or repair, go to repair.

It then should take you to a DOS like prompt. From there you can type chkdsk /r.

And if that doesnt work, we might try refreshing the boot sector

If the pc doesnt start still after all that, go back into the repair section and type in fixboot.
