I am using Windows XP Ver 5.1

When I search for a document using the Search function (Start>Search), I get the results but when I sort them (for example, according to types), they sort accordingly but refreshes after a while.

Imagine your results came back with a large number of results, you sort them according to file type, you're going through the list down, and the Search Results refreshes. Then you sort again, go down the list again, then refreshes again...

Please advice.

Spyware is well known to cause strange things with IE,

so maybe Windows Explorer (which is basically IE) is

afflicted by the same thing.

Boot into Safe mode (tap F8 at start up)

if you don`t get problem in there,then it`s probably spyware.

uum... i dont think its spyware...
instead, the explorer window must be set to auto-refresh at a fixed interval.
i've come across a program that can enable or disable auto-refresh feature, but i cant remember the name of the s/w.
there will be a registry hack available online.
