im want to get files off a hdd which has windows 2000 pro installed on it. i installed the drive but the bios picks it up but windows does not recognise it. im guessing its due to the windows installation. how can i access these files??

Is this drive the only drive in the machine or is it installed as a slave drive ?
From another machine?
If it has partitions , try loading windows on another partition.
Try a Dos boot disk and Xcopy?

If you are putting the HDD in another machine as a slave and the machine is running Win 95/98 or ME then I suspect the Win 2000 HDD is NTFS which the others cannot recognise. If it was setup as FAT32 it should be recognised.

the drive is installed as slave.

the other drive im booting from has windows xp pro installed.

both drives are using ntfs.

the windows 200 drive was originally in a different computer.

the drive i believe has 2 partitions.

i think i answered all the questions i sure hope so.

If you have Partition Magic, boot up from its program-floppy.
Then go to disk 2. You will find that some partition there is set as "active". Rightclick that partition and select "Convert", then to "Logical". When done, reboot and you should be able to access that HD
