Just by the way, didn't this link take you to your exact drivers? (serial number required)

You're welcome bhn26

kimsland i think his comp was originally shipped with Vista so bhn26 was looking for XP drivers for his hardware and as Gateway say on the quote below they only provide updates based on the original configuration so in this case they will only update Drivers for Vista on that system.
At least thats what i think you were pointing out about the Drivers.

Help Please!

Ok first and foremost thank you so much for the previous driver links they have aided me greatly. I do have an issue though and it's a little bit strange so help me out if you can.

I down graded to XP earlier today and installed a bunch of drivers. Everything is going well until I get to the internet. I have the wireless and network adapter up but the problem is they get stuck on "aqcuiring IP address." The strangest thing is that I can connect to a local unsecured network just fine but I cant get into our house network! Not through wireless nor connected. Im kinda at wits end here and am willing to delete all drivers do anything short of burning down gateway offices to get this to work. Thanks in advance.

MotherRussian that's good saying thanks for the drivers (although who knows, possibly old now, as the thread started in 2007!)

In regards to your Home network issue, instead of posting this here (on the Drivers Forum)
You are best to go and have a look at either Windows OS forum or Security and the Web forum (please choose appropriately) and repost your issue, in a New Thread.

This forum is for drivers only. And this exact thread is about drivers for Gateway ML3109

USB and SB driver location changed. New url unknown. Does anyone have the file saved on their computer or at least the name of the exe? The name would greatly help the search.

EDIT: New download location added for SMbus on the first post

Gateway doesn't supply XP drivers nor support for this laptop. It was shipped with vista basic and Gateway didn't make it easy to downgrade.

BTW Ubuntu 8.10 works great on this laptop. I have tried prior releases of Ubuntu with minor success (no wifi or no sound). This distro is working great, even dedicated video drivers for 3d accel.

EDIT:: I'm very surprised this thread has grow and survived so long. For Ubuntu info (not applicable with 8.10) see my other post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=511876 it has grow to 18pages!!! I would have never thought these postings could have the popularity they have received.

thank you aksd! I was looking for the SM bus controller and your link was perfect. I just want to point out though, that version 7.11 that you link to is the last version of the ATI Catalyst drivers that contains a working SM Bus driver for the ML3109. If you try to download a newer set, they won't work.

P.S. - any idea why the network card would suddenly stop being recognized? Not wireless, but the marvell 10/100. Not listed in device manager, so its as if the computer doesn't know it exists. power issue?

Hmmm. I don't remember having that problem.

I would start by flashing the BIO's. In the past two years there have been little quirks show up and flashing the BIO's solved most of them, that or a fresh install.

http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=231373300

It's an ISO file, burn to cd and reboot.

To be honest I don't know what would cause the marvel lan to disappear from the device manager.

Yes. The file you download is an exe. It is a selfextracting zip of some sorts. It unpacks to location C:\cabs Go there and look for the iso file named BIOS-8305. That is your BIO's. Burn this to a CD using your favorite ISO burner or try http://www.freeisoburner.com/ . Put the CD in the drive and reboot. Teh computer should be setup to boot CD first but if it doesn't you press F12 at boot for the boot selection. It runs by itself, no buttons to push. Just let it go until it says "press any key to reboot". I had a problem about two weeks ago where the laptop would become unresponsive and then it would post about 25% of the time. I was able to get the disc in and flashed the BIO's and all those quirks went away, even the OS instability and "lock ups" (8.10 Ubuntu).

Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm having quite a few problems getting this to to work.

So I installed Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on my step dads laptop and I got audio working, but am totally clueless on how to go about getting the wireless LAN working.

I don't even have the option to view Network Adapters in Device Manager when Internet was clearly working while it had Windows Vista installed.

Any help would GREATLY be appreciated. ):

That sounds as though you have NO networking drivers installed. Do you have a wired connection already????

and, just to double check and ask the basics: Are you working on a Gateway ML3109 or something else???

Thank you for the quick reply! Yeah, you're right. I didn't have any. I did for about a few minutes, but I somehow managed to un-install it (was un-installing what I thought was a failed LAN Ethernet Controller) and now it's not re-installing. The .inf files don't seem like they're working. I ended up finding a .exe for the wired connection and that worked once. Sadly it's not working now.

Yeah, I'm on Gateway ML3109. Couldn't stand seeing Vista on it so here I am. =/

So is there any reason as to why the files aren't working for me? The only thing I currently have installed on the laptop is audio.

Sorry if I'm missing something completely easy, as I tend to do so often but I spent quite the 4-5 hours trying to get this to work.

EDIT:
It's working just fine now, had to go and re-install everything and be very thorough on what I was doing.
Thanks again for the drivers and for the help guys!

Clarity, I have a similar problem with my ML3109. Deleted Vista, installed Windows, now the wireless doesn't work or even show up in the device manager list, but a failed Ethernet controller that has no drivers available does.

What precisely was your solution? Am I correct in understanding that you reinstalled Windows from the ground up?

Thanks in advance for your help.
