2 routers T Mobile Hot Spot

I'm trying to improve whole house phone reception for the recently purchased T Mobile Hot Spot service. I purchased a Linksys Router WRT54G-TM with the system and signal strength is weak where I most need it - my basement office.

I would like to add the original, pre-T Mobile router into the network. It would be placed on my desk for ultimate signal strength. That router is a Bendix G Router F5D7230-4.

My questions are this:

1. Is this a viable idea - will it give me increased signal strength?
2. If the answer to #1 is yes; how do I do it?
3. If the answer to #1 is no; any other suggestions?

Thanks - this is my first posting.

wire the network:
Code:
modem--(wan)Router#1(lan)--wired.connection--(lan1)Router#2
on router#1: enable DHCP, set your ssid=xyz, channel#1

on router#2: disable DHCP, set the SAME ssid, channel#11

you can wire any system to either router as well

be SURE to you update the firmware of both routers AND update the drivers
for all WiFi cards.
