'Failed to connect to a windows service' problem?
Hi, I have been trying to fix my laptop from earlier this morning and it seems a new problem keeps arising. I really need help.
First: I've had the 'NetWorm-i.virus@fp' problem, and I have tried coutness Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software to get rid of it, and it hasn't worked. But for some reason, when I was uninstalling CA Anti-Virus software because it hadn't worked, the computer froze and I had to turn it off and back on again. When it rebooted, the error message stopped popping up. Also, a 'Failed to connect to a windows service' message pops up instead after start up. When I type in my password for my user account, it takes about 5-7mins to actually display my screen, after going showing a black screen for about 3-4mins out of the 5-7mins. The message says: 'Failed to connect to a windows service: Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrator user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.' Secondly, I downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware and ran a scan while in Safe Mode and a 'Trojan.Obfuscated.en' was found, and I quarantined it. But the 'Failed to connect to windows service' message still appears after start up. Thirdly, for some reason, when the 'Failed to connect to a windows service' message started appearing, my wireless has stopped working. I can recieve a signal from my PSP and another laptop, but not the affected laptop. Also, I try to use 'Windows Help and Support' but it won't work. And I can't go to the URL the error message gave to me since my wireless isn't working. |

ok,
Boot in safe mode and login under a local adminstrator account. Right click My Computer and click manage, up will pop up a computer management window, in that window double click Services and Applications and then click Services. In the list of services scroll down to "System Event notification" and double click it. The properties for this Service will then display. Make sure the start up type is set to Automatic and make sure the Service status is set to Started. After you have done this click "Event Viewer" in the far top left of the screen and click "System". This will bring up the logging of events in which have happened on your machine. This can help us determine whats causing the error. So click "Action" on the top toolbar and click "Save log files as," save it somewhere and then upload it in your next post. Do not copy and paste it. Reboot your machine see what happens. Regards, |

hi, it seems that i have the same problem that jabs1090, my problem started when i tried to connect to a friend Ethernet connection (in my house I have a wireless router and it works with my computer), well, i cannot connect in my friends house, a message in my anti virus (Kaspersky Internet Security) appeared and I block some of them, later i went to my house and i couldn't connect to the router. I tried with diagnose and repair and it says that the wireless option is off, but it is on on my computer.
I say that is the same problem that jabs1090 because the same message appeared, and the same things happened to me, like the black screen like 4-5 min. I tried the steps that grimesy69 says, but when I start in safe mode, when I try to start "System Event notification" it says that it cant be started in safe mode, and when I turn it on in normal mode, the status says starting, never started. I have windows vista and I don't know what to do. I would be pleased if you can help me. |

For the Service: Windows XP
Boot into Safe Mode> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services> Right click on System Event Notification> Properties> change Startup mode to Automatic. Do NOT attempt to start the Service. Make sure the Event Log Service is also set to Automatic. Reboot into Normal mode and this Service should start. http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm#Services For the Event Viewer in Windows XP: Follow this path: Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Event Viewer> Click on System & Apps, one at a time on the left> look for Errors on the right> right click error> Properties> note description of error, Event# and Source. There is a "copy" button below the up/down arrows. Click that, then paste (use CTRL-V) the event details here. It makes for easy reporting of the event-you do not need to include the lines of code that follow the Description-but paste all else. You will be looking for Error that occurs at the time of the problem. Please ignore Warnings. If you have multiple Errors with the same ID#, the same Source and the same description, only one of each is required. For the Service in Vista: Boot into Safe Mode. Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services> right click on System Event Notification Service> set startup mode to Automatic. Do NOT attempt to start the Service. Make sure the Event Log Service is also on Automatic. Reboot into Normal Mode. The Service should be started. For the Event Viewer in Vista: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...ows-Vista.html Please observe the same guidelines for reporting: ignore Warnings, only one copy of recurring identical error. Copy button is on lower left. |

baaldox, you cannot assume the problem is the same because you get the same message!
"connect to a friend Ethernet connection". Please explain what you mean by this. It sounds like you are attempting to connect to someones wireless connection, other than your own. Not only is this illegal, but it doesn't necessarily work just because you have a wireless router. "a message in my anti virus (Kaspersky Internet Security) appeared and I block some of them" What message? What do you block? "later i went to my house and i couldn't connect to the router." What did you do to the router trying to connect to someone else's wireless connection? |

sorry i am Mexican and i trying to explain my problem the best i can, and i`m not very good at computer things.
My friends computer burned and he wanted to connect to the Internet, so I went to his house and connected my laptop to his Ethernet cable. When I connected his cable to my laptop a row of messages started to appear of my antivirus, that if i wanted to change some programs, I didn't pay much attention because it always says something like it, I accepted a lot of them, but because they didn't finish, I denied some of them. I didnt do anything to my router, I just came home and tried to connect to my wireless router like always, but i couldn't, |

Hey
I have the same problem as baaldox Kaspersky popped up asking me to allow or block some things that i htink might of been related to system32. I allowed most of them but i blocked some of them because they kept popping up and I didnt know what they were. I never connected to my friends ethernet, all I did was turn my laptop on and a system event notification popped up and it wont let me log on with limited users and it carnt find any wireless routers. Need help ![]() |

This is real simple, but i have found that a lot of the times we tend to over think things. Try disabling any firewall software that you have running and see if you can connect. It sounds like you blocked something that you should not.

I would like to thank Markiepoos, all day I was looking to fix this, Services could not connect but now I have only 1 problem: it is the Windows Image Acquistion service " There is no application registered for this event" I press closed and it pops up back, Hey at least I have Internet now on the main computer
I was just wondering what It could be.Before the problem I never seen that type of error. As soon as the problem started, I had this Windows Image Acquisition Serivce error, fixed the problem with your winsock reset and it is still there. |

Start> Run> services.msc> right click on Windows Image Acquisition> Properties> set Start up Type to Manual> Close and reboot. Be careful that you choose WIA as there are several Services beginning with word 'Windows.' This is a good ans safe setting. |

Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
Used for some scanners, web cams, and cameras. If, after disabling this service, your scanner or camera fails to function properly, enable this service by placing it into automatic. |
