Vista laptop does not find wireless network
I bought a new modem router (D-Link DSL G624T).
The ethernet connections between the desktop (XP) and laptop (Vista premium) are O.K The laptop is equipped with a built in wireless network adapter (Atheros AR5007EG). I followed all the steps to create a new wireless network (only the laptop is now involved). I also defined the router configuration. In Vista I see Wireless Network Connection not connected. When trying to connect Vista cannot find the network. Viewing the network computers and devices it only finds the ethernet workgroup and internet gateway device. The switch for wireless networking is on on the laptop. The green light showing WAN activated is up on the router. MS firewall Can anybody give me a clue what is going on ? I have the impression that the laptop and router are on different planets. Here are the specs for vista laptop and router: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. well the route is enabled for wireless (ie it should be transmitting) and you
should see the SSID dlink. you already have wired access on your Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet so why are you attempting the wireless too? You will not get additional thruput with multiple connections. If you want to TEST your wireless, disconnection the cable from the NIC and then use the Wireless Wizard to find DLINK |

Vista laptop does not find wireless
My goal is 1; Test the wireless
2. When my wife uses the portable she coud get into internet. No real workgroup in this case. The workgroup is mainly for maintenance work between the 2 PCs and then it is Ethernet connection. What do you mean NIC ? Wireless network is just not there on my screen (Network and sharing center nor when going into Connect to a network). I am starting to wonder if it is not the antenna of the router that is faulty ? Roger |

usually on a laptop, there's a slide switch to enable/disable the Wireless adapter
and a light to show it's 'ON' a NIC is the Network Interface Card (Ethernet) into which you plug the RJ45 connector from the cable. |

no wireless connection seen
The problem is solved. The computer shop where I bought the two units (PC and router) needed to remove the Norton Security which I didn't mind as I had the intention to remove it. After that the connection worked without trouble after another adjustment with the channel.
