With the Pavilion 15, HP has a 15.6-inch all-rounder in its offerings. The built-in ULV quad-core processor offers more than enough computing power for all the usual application scenarios. The dedicated graphics core enables the limited use of many computer games. However, it gets tight for the most current games, and for that scenario, HP should have used a more powerful graphics core such as the GeForce MX150 GPU.
Even with the 8th generation Intel Core processor, the HP Pavilion 15 doesn’t quite reach the likes of a high-end laptop. Though it can run demanding applications and some games, we would only recommend it to somebody who wants that additional boost with everyday tasks. We just feel that this laptop needed a better quality display with a higher resolution to be a good recommendation.
As a Dell XPS 13 user, I have to say I missed my laptop at the time of this review. So for $1000 that you’re paying for the Hp Pavilion 15, you are getting a good display, a tactile keyboard, and a portable form factor. But you’re compromising a lot with the older GPU, low build quality and a below-par battery life which has made this device neither a gaming laptop nor a reliable ultrabook. So, if you are in search of a laptop maybe you should just skip this one and get a better value for money device by adding a couple of bucks.
