Fate/Samurai Remnant

With a great story, rewarding combat, and endearing characters, Fate/Samurai Remnant proves there is still room for single-player story-focused RPGs in a world where mobile gacha games dominate the market.

Fate/Samurai Remnant combines the masterful storytelling of the Fate universe with Koei Tecmo’s expertise in creating excellent hack-and-slash games. It’s certainly worth picking up, as long as you’re up for the rather challenging action RPG gameplay.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a fresh addition to the Fate franchise, offering a unique take on the adaptable Holy Grail War formula that caters to newcomers and longtime fans. If you have the patience for its deliberate storytelling, you’ll discover a compelling narrative exploring themes of self-repression. This journey is enhanced by a well-written main cast and supporting characters, a satisfying combat system, an addictive gameplay loop, and an emotionally resonant soundtrack.

If you are new to Fate and you want to have fun battling armies of monsters or thugs, then Fate/Samurai Remnant is worth a look for the satisfaction of the thrill of the fight. Just be ready for a lot of reading. If you are already a Fate fan, then Fate/Samurai Remnant will be the ultimate Fate experience.

Traverse the city of Edo and become victorious in the Waxing Moon Ritual. Fight, explore, converse... Many elements are deeply intertwined in this action RPG! PC version reviewed.

Slightly underwhelming combat aside, it is a pretty small blemish on the face of a work that might be the best Fate game to emerge in a long while. By reframing the core context of a Holy Grail War and establishing it in a new setting and with a new, fresh cast of characters, Fate/Samurai Remnant manages to grasp and elevate the fundamentals of the Fate series in a way that makes it all approachable, while not skimping on fan service for those who’ve stuck with Fate all this time.
