Benchmarks: The Witcher III, Mafia III, Ghost Recon

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt we see once again that the RX 480 is limiting the performance of the CPUs, so we'll have to compare the minimum frame rates. Doing so, we see that the 7700K is 8% faster using either the GTX 1060 or RX 480.

Back to some more interesting results (Mafia III always seems to deliver those), as we have seen in the past with Titan XP testing, the 1800X is able to best the 7700K in this title, even with a maximum overclock on the Kaby Lake CPU. When playing with the GTX 1060, the minimum frame rates were much the same though the 1800X was 5% faster on average.

However, once paired with the RX 480, the 1800X quite shockingly falls behind, seeing the 7700K deliver 6% more performance on average and 15% more for the minimum.

The RX 480 delivers quite the blow for AMD's own 1800X in this title.

Capping things off, we have a final batch of results, and these might be the most fascinating of the lot, amplifying the effects we just saw when testing with Mafia III.

When playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands with the GTX 1060, the 1800X was only 6% slower than the 7700K and given the difference in IPC performance, this result is great.

However, something goes horribly wrong for Ryzen once paired with the RX 480. For whatever reason, the 1800X falls 25% behind the 7700K and 33% if we look at the minimum frame rate.

I'm not sure what's going on here and it's certainly strange that the 1800X looks so competitive when equipped with a GTX 1060 yet underwhelming with a RX 480.
