High Quality Performance

The high quality settings reduced performance a little more when coming from the medium quality settings, though not as much as I expected. The Radeon X1950XT still obviously struggled to deliver playable performance at 1280x1024, while anything slower was unable to deliver playable performance. The GeForce 8800 GTS (640MB) was now a little sluggish at 1920x1200 while it was still able to deliver perfectly playable performance at 1600x1200.

For those that wish to play Bioshock at 1920x1200 using high quality visual settings the Radeon HD 2900XT or GeForce 8800 GTX will be required. At this resolution the Radeon HD 2900XT managed 40fps while the GeForce 8800 GTX delivered 43fps. Both also produced highly playable performance at 1600x1200. Playing Bioshock on these graphics cards was amazing and I was glad to see it running so well on hardware that has been around for some time now. So much for money well invested, huh?
