NASA has stated that next year's solar maximum will see solar flares which are "a problem the same way hurricanes are a problem".

But it's not all doom! This statement issued today from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, in which we are told of hurricane-like solar flares coming, also adds reassuringly:

There simply isn't enough energy in the sun to send a killer fireball 93 million miles to destroy Earth ... even at their worst, the sun's flares are not physically capable of destroying Earth.

Basic nonsense... media keeps feeding us all the time with disasters and superstorms that are gonna destroy everything...

I've survived each and everyone this far. :|

Nah, everyone knows that when things look their bleakest and the countdown timer reaches 00:00:01, an American male A-list star will save the day.

You know the next disaster facing Earth is a collision with a gigantic asteroid inhabited by Islamic extremist aliens riddled with avian flu and who are in collusion with the secret world government to enslave the population through addiction to GM fast food....right? Think you can survive that without major input from Hollywood ?

The worst it will do will be knock out a few satellites, kill a few mobile towers, and likely cause blackouts. There will be very little actual damage. If the worst comes to the worst, turn off your fridges and freezers, stick your electrical equipment in there, and wait it out.

EDIT: Fridges and Freezers are, by default, Faraday Cages
