If it were my system, I`d be tempted to backup my important data and reformat.

In my experience, that usually solves these kind of problems.

Regards Howard :)

The backing up of your important data involves saving your data/music/photos etc to either another hard drive or cd/dvd.

Then, formatting your hard drive, which will completely wipe it, then reinstall Windows etc.

For some reason, that last hijack this log came through feedback, but Howard must have removed it. At any rate, I have these suggestions for you:

You need to take the following off of your startup menu. They are not critical components and do not need to start when you boot and run in the background. These are all legitimate programs or processes, but none should be on startup. This can cause performance problems either with speed or programs conflicts:

1. C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
HPWuSchd2.exe: HP Windows Updates Scheduler task: slow down boot-up times, often generating errors during the boot-up process, slowing down your Internet connection, particularly if you are on dial-up rather than broadband, and the worst behaved ones install software without your knowledge, potentially creating conflicts. In the case of HPWUSCHD/HPWUSCHD2 we have seen it occasionally cause crash on boot-up on some PCs. Most importantly, if your printer works fine and without problems, there is no need to fix what does not need fixing through the installation of the latest drivers
2. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
a program which schedules for manual update checks for Real Networks products
3. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE>>>>MDM.EXE: Machine Debug Manager: go to the Services tab Administrative Tools, right click on this service> Properties> change start up mode to Manual> Stop the Service. There is a bug with MDM where it will regularly create zero-length temporary files in the Windows folder and not delete them. If you do not do regular housekeeping you can end up with hundreds of such files.
4. C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared Files\RichVideo.exe>>>>RichVideo.exe: richvideo.exe is a process which belongs to the Cyberlink Power Director
5. C:\Program Files\Verizon Wireless\V CAST Music\V CAST Music Monitor.exe>>>>V CAST Music Monitor.exe: V CAST Music Monitor runs on your computer and monitors removable media devices to ensure that the music files copied to the media can be correctly recognized and played by the V CAST Music player on your Verizon Wireless phone.
6. C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe>>>>atiptaxx.exe: is the traybar process for your ATI graphics card drivers. It gives you easy access to your graphic card settings. This process can be removed to free up system resources.
7. C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe>>>>hpsysdrv.exe: HP background task which keeps track of system recovery information. This task is purely for troubleshooting problems experienced when doing a complete system recovery from the HP recovery CD that came with your PC, and only HP engineers have the means to interpret the information it generates. At all other times this task has effectively no purpose and so you can disable it on the Startups tab o
8. jusched.exe: Sun Java Runtime Update Scheduler: . Stay in control of your PC and disable this task as follows : double-click on the Java plug-in icon in the Control Panel, go to the Update tab and uncheck “Check for updates automatically”, click APPLY – this will disable JUSCHED from starting at boot-up.
9. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe>>>>a program which schedules for manual update checks for Real Networks products.
10. C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe>>>>a process belonging to Itunes MP3 streaming tool by Apple, which allows you to play MP3's. This process speeds up iTunes when it starts, and the program also monitors for connected iPod devices
11. C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe>>>>a process belonging to Apple's iTunes mp3 media suite and is a core process.
12. C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PCM4Everio.exe>>>>Related to Everio_camcorders from JVC
13. C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe>>>>Apple’s QuickTime Tray Icon which enables you to start QuickTime from the System Tray > an unreasonable resource hog – it has been measured to use as much as 1.5M
14. C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe>>>>guard.exe: this is a legitimate process of AVG anti-spyware, but it has been noted to use high CPU. If that is an issue for you, go into Services and change the startup mode to Manual.
15. C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee QuickClean\Plguni.exe>>>> Background task installed by McAfee’s QuickClean 3. Note, however, that it is not uncommon to get "Page Fault" or "Illegal Operations" caused by PLGUNI, so make sure you regularly update your version of QuickClean 3.
16. C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe>>>>LSSrvc.exelssrvc.exe is a process associated with the Light Scribe software from Nero AG.:
