    How soon ?

I mean everyone is expecting the R600 series to be released on a daily basis. Id atleast hold my horses for a week or 2 and maybe it will come, or atleast have an official release date set.

Even if the ATI offering is better, your not going to go wrong with a 8800 so either way its up to you

The high-end cards are expected to be released in mid May. Let's just hope that they actually will be released then. Unfortunately, I don't think that they will have very good performance. Dailytech got their hands on an HD 2900 XTX and an HD 2900 XT and benched them here:
http://www.dailytech.com/ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX Doomed from the Start/article7052.htm

Even though I'm an Nvidia man, I personally hope that Ati's HD series smokes Nvidia's offerings. That'll drive down the price of Nvidia's cards, and who doesn't like cheaper hardware? I just hope these benchmarks don't accurately reflect the poor performance of the HD series. I'm surprised no one else has posted this yet. It's several days old now.
