xp sp3 with all updates thru including Dec 12.

No devices in device manager, and no Safely Remove Hardware in systray.

I'm not getting a popup from Plug n Play when new USB stick is added.
I do have Plug and Play Service automatic start.

I can not get to internet, but am working from a laptop with wireless conection to that router.

Have received The system has recovered from a serious error message.

Have unsuccessfully tried a restore

I do have the XP CD, but have never done a Repair. Is that my next option?
