Boot freeze after antivirus finds fake av virus

Hey all,

I have a PC that's around 12 months old, and mainly used for email and internet for my business.

Yesterday I clicked on a link that downloaded a "fake av" virus which instantly bombarded my screen with pretend antivirus messages saying it had found a heap of viruses. My Norton antivirus picked it up when scanning and said was fixed - it just suggested I reboot to finish fixing the virus, which I did but the reboot freezes in the first couple of seconds of booting up. Doesn't even make it to the windows screen, and won't start in safe mode (freezes before it gets that far). Can't boot from disc, as it doesn't start up far enough for that option. Please help!

Oh yeah, if you can, please provide detail on any processes, as I'm not all that tech savvy but can follow good instructions. Thanks heaps...

This sounds like a) possibly the infection has done some to the harddrive and/or b) you are still infected. Do you have a friend who has tech know-how?
