    hi
i've got an old acer travelmate 8100, which will be useful for my upcoming job, but is not working at the moment. I want it to work and restore it to factory settings.
Every time i turn it on, after the windows screen, windows begins the following check and i get the following data

checking the file system on C:
the type of file system is fat32
one of your disks need to be checked for consistency
    volume serial number is 320D-180E
windows is vertifying files and folders,
    file verification is complete
convert last chains to files (y/n) y
insufficient disk space to recover lost data
    5069152kb in 1047 recoverable files
    97659328kb total disk space
5673984 kb in 3052 hidden files
    328256 kb in 78381 files
    0kb are available

    32768kb in each allocation unit
3051854 total allocation units on disk
0 allocation units available on disk.
error in writing the output log

After this, it goes to bluescreen. If i skip it, it goes straight to blue screen, i cant start safe mode, cant start with last known working settings. I dont have an acer recovery disk. I have been told that acers can load an "erecovery" holding "alt+f10" during start-up, but this doesn't work either...

    anyone have advice? HELP!

You will need to replace the hard drive

is that all you can say any more details? what would a suitable one range from in price?

Just because you say this, it tells me that you have no clue how to have a laptop hard drive replaced. Cost depends on where you live, and what resources you have available to you. Like an Ebay account, and a PayPal account. Hard drives can cost less than $40 but you have to have a some way to install Windows
