BSODs on 7 Ultimate 32-bit, Error 0x8e and 0x50

My friend just reinstalled windows 7 on his laptop, a Compaq Presario CQ42 - 269TX because the clock keeps changing. He just bought the laptop about 5 months ago. The problem still persists after the reinstallation but the problem suddenly goes away. Now he keeps getting errors 0x8e and 0x50. It usually happens after exiting a game. I've ran memtest and the ram passed the test.

Here's the log from BlueScreenView:

Five of your most recent dumps were read and all cite the same Windows OS driver cdd.dll as the culprit. Usually OS drivers are too general to be of much diagnostic help. They more point out that there is a problem rather than specifying what the problem is.

However, there is quite a bit on the 'net concerning this driver and 7. The CDD.DLL is part of the Canonical Display Driver in Windows. Have you installed any kind of new patches for games or any kind of legacy program or game?

How long did you run memtest? What was his reason for reinstalling 7? There is a chance that the reinstallation was not a clean one. Perhaps a Windows Repair is due.

Do a harddrive diagnosis.

the reason he reinstalled his windows is because the clock keeps changing. he said it was annoying and he thought that reinstalling would solve the problem. i ran memtest for 7 passes and it said passed. so i think i'll run memtest again tonight. then do a harddrive diagnosis. then, i'll do a windows repair. btw, the hdd partitions are dynamic, just in case it's related to the problem. thanks for the reply. i'll report back after doing all the above.

Update: i ran memtest again and did a hdd diagnosis. passed everything. did a windows repair (sfc /scannow). updated the bios too. i'll return the laptop to him and see whether there's more BSOD. thanks for ur help Route44.
