  1. I am trying to fix connection problems for a friend. they use an terayon tj 715x cable modem, and a linksys wrx54g wireless router. the wireless connection works fine, but the lan cable coming from the router, has a connection, but when its plugged in it constantly is "acquiring network address" ive done everthing, when i plug the laptop up to the lan cable it connects with no problems, could this be an problem with the router, or he modem? on a nic problem? the nic is onboard a brand new pcchips mobo, help would be appreciated thanks!

don't try to have both wired/wireless active at the same time.

use the Device Mgr to disable the wireless and then reboot.

again use the Device Mgr and verify the driver and no red/yellow marks.

    if possible, update the driver.

might also try to use auto-discovery to fix it:
    1. delete the driver altogether
    2. reboot and
    3. let MS find/config the device
