Cannot install software after XP SP2 update

After needing to reformat my system and going through the whole windows update process for the millionth time i find myself unable to install most software that i download. The setup / install executable will load (and become visible in the processes window), but nothing will happen.

Any idea what i need to do to get this computer to function properly once more?

Hi,

Check the Windows Installer service is running- Start/Run/type:services.msc

Try downloading the latest Windows Installer

If that doesn`t install :haha: read the the SP2 Problem Solver
