    It shouldn't matter.
Make sure, your BIOS settings are correct.
Read a Note in my reply #16.

Actually, I did follow the directions. F2, set CD to priority 1, saved changes and it's still booting to XP. So, shall I disable the boot from C or ?

I assume, you used CD-R, not CD-RW, or DVD?

Possibly, bad download, or bad burn.
  4. ItchyDog Newcomer, in training

    Yes, a CD-R
Must be a bad download/burn because I disable the boot from C, and it wouldn't boot from the CD. I only have a broadband connection, so will go to my local high-speed source and download/reburn a new one. Will take a while - got a church commitment this afternoon/evening.

Thanks again for all your help - I really appreciate it.

    No problem :)
    We have to boot somehow.

    No joy yet...

    Broni,
Downloaded the file again and burned two CDs (from same download, since it took about an hour) but can't boot from either one. I have a friend with another connection - will check with him, but again, will take a while.

Thanks for your help and patience.

    Let me know...

    Broni,
Took my computer to a friend with lots of experience getting rid of these things, here's what he said: "Finally found the root cause, which was a rootkit buried in the system files. Dug it out with a tool, which opened me back up to digging everything else out. You had a lot of stuff in there. So, got it working and learned more about malware behavior. Irresistable to a true geek..........

However, given the number of trojans and backdoors I dug out, I can never be sure I got them all, especially the back doors. I would hate to give it back and find out that someone could get access down the road. So, SOP in this biz is to do the restore."

BTW, just to start looking, he loaded Linux from a USB - avoided the whole windows thing.

    Again, thanks for your help!!!
