Can't install Ad-aware because of a Visuall C++ 9.0 error

Hi, I'm using a Windows XP pro SP3 os and I'm not able to install Ad-aware ver 8.2. I get an error saying that I need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 9.0 service pack 1 whereas it's already installed. I downloaded another copy of it from Microsoft site and now I can't even uninstall Visual C++ to try installing it again. How do I solve this problem and install Ad-aware. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
