replace the drive its probably failed.

or remove it in device manager and reboot.

whilst the pc is shut down take the side of the case off and see if the connector wire is in properly.

Did the CD/DVD drive you have installed come with Drivers? If so, then attempt to uninstall the previous drivers by navigating to Device Manager, select DVD/CD-ROM Drives, right click on the drive that is failing and select Properties. From this, navigate to Drivers and uninstall.

If your CD/DVD drive did not come with a driver installation disc, then we can give you a driver for it if you can give us the brand and model of the drive.

Which OS do you currently use? windows 7 can update drivers, so if you have windows 7 uninstall DVD/CD-ROM then update it in device management by internet, If you don't have windows 7, whats model and make ? Could also be that the lens is dirty, try using CD cleaner won't matter that much if it don't read it as long as it spins, best of luck!.

Optical drives don't need any extra drivers since Windows 2000.
