Computer freezes when on internet XP Home

computer freezes when on internet xp home-clean low level format install--Dell XP Home SP3 2002; browser doesn't matter-Chrome, IE8, Firefox, Opera. seems to freeze when using mouse. ctl/alt/del doesn't work-I have to force shut computer down (hold power button or unplug). doesn't freeze everytime or after certain amount of usage. Tried different mice: MS Intellipoint Optical Wheelmouse USB, GE PS2 mouse, GearHead USB Wireless mouse; any thoughts [solution]? BTW, no problem w/Ubuntu 9.04 on same computer, I've clean installed XP on all HDs-same problem...I use Avast AV, used BitDefender, Trend-Micro, SpyBot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Guard, SpyWare Blaster, Windows Defender; AVG previous AV...No BSODs.

Are you running all those AV's at the same time. Only one AV is all you need, running more than one will cause problems.

I would suggest you remove all that AV software using Uninstall Tools from the manufacturers site, where available, and install Microsoft Security Essentials. Do you also have third party firewall/s?

Look in Event Viewer for recent errors and see if they indicate what the problem is.
